On February 19, the inauguration of the World Copernican Congress will take place, organized by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Warmia and Mazury University in Olsztyn, and the Institute of the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The World Copernican Congress will have a „walking” formula. The proceedings will take place successively in Krakow (May 24–26), Olsztyn (June 21–24), and Toruń (September 12–15). The February celebrations are a symbolic beginning of the event because they take place on the anniversary of the birth of the great astronomer, which is also the holiday of the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
In each of the cities, thematic sections will be addressed to individual groups of researchers. Economists, philosophers, and historians of these disciplines are invited to Krakow (May 24–26, 2023). The Olsztyn proceedings (June 21–24, 2023) will focus on the biography of the great astronomer and museums dedicated to him. The Toruń part of the Congress (September 12–15, 2023) will bring together historians, cultural studies experts, literary scholars, and art historians interested in the place of Nicolaus Copernicus in the broadly understood culture, as well as astronomers and historians of astronomy, and representatives of medical sciences.
